New type of drill bit for cutting stainless steel

September 18, 2022

Hitachi Tools exhibited the fine drilling of precision mechanical parts and electronic components at the 17th Mould Processing Technology Exhibition (INTERMOLD2006) held in Index Osaka from April 12th to 15th, 2006. Developed the drill "EpochMicroDrill". It can be used to process cutting materials such as resin, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, alloy steel, etc., and can maintain stable processing for a longer period of time than in the past.
By using a fine-grained TiSiN-based coating, even a Tool having a diameter of less than 0.1 mm is less likely to be worn. Even a highly adherent cutting material such as stainless steel can smoothly discharge chips, so that the drill is not easily broken.
The roundness of the drill shank is above 0.2μm, the cylindricity is below 0.5μm, and the diameter tolerance achieves high precision of 0~?4μm, thereby reducing the deviation during fixing and increasing the processing stability.
There are 13 models in the product, the diameter is between 0.08~0.2mm, and the price is 5072~6993 yen (including tax). It is scheduled to be launched in May 2006.
